The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has today launched its Middle East Humanitarian Appeal after deciding that its three criteria have now been met following escalating violence in Lebanon.

The DEC, which brings together 15 of the UK’s biggest aid charities including Oxfam, British Red Cross and ActionAid – says the scale of need is overwhelming. It says people across Gaza, Lebanon and the wider region require food, shelter and medical care after fleeing their homes in search of safety – and donations will be matched by the UK government up to the first £10m.

You can help people affected by the crisis in the Middle East by donating and helping to raise money for the DEC appeal. This will allow DEC charities and their local partners to scale up their response and reach more people.

  • £30 could provide blankets for six people to keep them warm
  • £50 could provide emergency food, for five families for one week
  • £100 could provide emergency shelter for five families

The UK Government will match all donations up to £10m.

More information about how the DEC have been responding to the conflicts in the Middle East can be found on the Disasters Emergency Committee Website.
