Disclosure Scotland has launched a new online guidance tool to help individuals and organisations work out if a role needs membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme.
This tool has been developed in anticipation of the legislative changes taking effect on 1st April 2025, which will make PVG scheme membership a legal requirement for anyone carrying out a regulated role.
The tool is designed to support those who work or volunteer with children or protected adults in regulated roles, as well as those who employ individuals (paid or voluntary) in such roles. It allows for a thorough assessment of roles against the established criteria for regulated positions.
Users are reminded that, until 1st April 2025, PVG applications should continue to be submitted through the standard process.
To further assist with the transition, Disclosure Scotland’s Customer Engagement Team (CET) are continuing their programme of training and events focusing on the Disclosure Act, including dedicated sessions on regulated roles. You can sign up for these on Disclosure Scotland’s events page.
For those who remain uncertain after using the online guidance tool, the CET offers personalised guidance. Enquiries can be directed to DisclosureAct@disclosurescotland.gov.scot.
Disclosure Scotland plans to publish additional guidance on regulated roles on its website in the near future. This initiative underscores Disclosure Scotland’s commitment to supporting organisations and individuals in navigating the upcoming changes to the disclosure system.
