Change Grow Live (CGL) in West Lothian is seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to join their dedicated teams and support individuals on their journey to positive change. We have several rewarding volunteer opportunities available, each offering a unique way to contribute to the local community and gain valuable experience.
1. Harm Reduction Volunteer
Are you passionate about promoting harm reduction and making a direct impact on people’s safety? As a Harm Reduction Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in supporting CGL’s harm reduction café in Bathgate. The café provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals who use alcohol/substances, offering education on harm reduction strategies, access to training, and social connections.
Key activities include:
- Providing harm reduction advice and information.
- Supporting the staff team in the café.
- Preparing and serving refreshments.
- Promoting a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.
The café runs every Monday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm, making this an ideal opportunity for someone with around 3 hours a week to dedicate to volunteering. Full training will be provided, including Naloxone administration, injecting equipment provision (IEP), sexual health, and blood-borne viruses (BBV), with opportunities to be involved in dry blood spot testing.
2. Duty Volunteer
Do you have excellent communication and IT skills and a desire to provide a warm welcome and support to individuals accessing recovery services? As a Duty Volunteer, you’ll be the first point of contact at CGL’s West Lothian Recovery Services in Bathgate, ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for service users, staff, and partner agencies.
Key activities include:
- Greeting and assisting visitors.
- Answering calls and providing information.
- Providing administrative support.
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality.
This role requires IT literacy and offers the opportunity to develop your administrative and communication skills while making a real difference in people’s lives. The role requires a commitment of one or two afternoons a week.
3. Community Volunteer
Are you passionate about promoting recovery and creating a sense of community? As a Community Volunteer, you’ll support CGL’s community recovery cafés in Blackburn and Livingston, providing a safe and welcoming space for individuals in recovery to connect and socialize.
Key activities include:
- Setting up and clearing the café space.
- Preparing and serving refreshments.
- Creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
- Offering support and information to service users.
Volunteers will also receive training in Naloxone administration. There may also be opportunities to support the team with duty volunteer roles and assist with the Friday Box-fit group. This role is ideal for someone who is friendly, punctual, and has good boundaries and a desire to support people in the recovery community and can offer around 4 hours once or twice a week.
General Requirements for All Volunteer Roles
- All volunteers must be able to work within professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality.
- Good communication skills are essential.
- Volunteers should be compassionate, non-judgmental, and have a desire to support our client group.
- Volunteers must be willing to attend training and supervision sessions.
- A basic level DBS/PVG check will be required for all positions.
