Significant alterations to Disclosure Scotland’s services, arising from the Disclosure (Scotland) Act 2020, will come into effect on Tuesday, 1st April 2025. These changes may now legally require Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) checks for volunteer positions within your organisation, including Trustee and Director roles.
The definition of Regulated Roles requiring PVG checks has been broadened. Notable additions include, but are not limited to:
- Board members, directors, committee members, and trustees
- Sports and talent agents, including scouts
- Homeless service support volunteers
Organisations are strongly advised to review their current volunteer roles to determine if these new regulations apply, even if PVG checks were not previously required.
To assist with this process, Volunteer Scotland Disclosure Services (VSDS) have published comprehensive Regulated Roles guidance, accessible on the Volunteer Scotland website. This resource will help organisations assess their roles and determine PVG check requirements.
